OUR HISTORY
Established in 1878, SGS revolutionized grain trading in Europe by offering innovative agricultural inspection services. The company was registered in Geneva as Société Générale de Surveillance in 1919. SGS shares were first listed on the SWX Swiss Exchange in 1985. Since 2001, we have had a single class of registered shares.
From our origins in 1878 as a grain inspection company, we have grown steadily to become industry leaders. We have achieved this through continuous improvement, innovation, and by supporting our clients’ operations through risk reduction and productivity enhancement.
