AGEINCO joins the debate on the need for fair rates for engineering services following the meeting with the Secretary of State for the Environment.

Vigo, June 12, 2025 – At AGEINCO, we positively value the growing visibility of a key issue for the future of engineering: the need to establish fair, appropriate, and sustainable fees that reflect the real value of technical work and ensure the quality of projects.

This morning, AGEINCO participated in a productive meeting with the Secretary of State for the Environment of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, in which strategic topics for the sector were addressed. Among them, infrastructure planning, public procurement, and the fundamental role of engineering in promoting the ecological transition. The meeting was held in collaboration with CIES – Conocimiento e Ingeniería de España.

During the meeting, a critical issue was brought to the table: the negative effects of devaluing technical work on the quality, viability, and sustainability of projects. Excessively reducing the prices of engineering services not only impacts the professionalization of the sector, but it can also lead to cost overruns, technical deficiencies, delays, and greater risks in project execution.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the technical and associative fields, including AGEINCO’s Secretary General, who attended as part of the CIES team. This joint presence demonstrates the strong commitment of both entities to defending the public interest, improving technical quality, and strengthening the professional fabric of engineering.

A message aligned with AGEINCO’s principles

At AGEINCO, we advocate for public procurement based on technical quality, professional solvency, and long-term value, beyond price as the sole award criterion. This vision, which we share with other actors in the sector, is based on the idea that well-valued engineering is a guarantee of sustainability, efficiency, and safety.

In this regard, we echo the recent CIES publication on LinkedIn, which highlights the importance of not “cheapening” engineering, as this directly affects the real cost and quality of projects. This message, widely supported in the sector, is increasingly present in technical and institutional forums, reinforcing the urgency of opening a rigorous and transparent debate on this issue.

Our commitment to the sector

As a cluster, we reaffirm our commitment to institutional dialogue and collaboration with administrations, contracting entities, and sectoral organizations, with the aim of promoting a balanced regulatory and economic framework that recognizes the added value provided by our companies.

Promoting appropriate contracting conditions is not merely a corporate issue: it is a shared responsibility that affects infrastructure safety, the quality of public service, and trust in the technical solutions demanded by today’s society.

We will continue working actively to ensure that public policies and procurement procedures recognize the importance of well-valued, professionalized engineering committed to sustainable development.
