AGEINCO Forum with Ignacio Barrón de Angoiti, Chairman of the Railway Accident Investigation Commission (CIAF): a strategic reflection on railway safety and resilient infrastructure

On Wednesday, 22 April 2026, AGEINCO held a new edition of its Forum featuring Ignacio Barrón de Angoiti, Chairman of the Railway Accident Investigation Commission (CIAF), one of the most respected figures in the fields of rail transport and infrastructure safety, who is currently leading the investigation into the recent Adamuz railway accident.

The event brought together members and collaborators in a space for dialogue and analysis focused on the key challenges facing the sector, highlighting the importance of maintenance, prevention, and investigation as fundamental pillars for ensuring the safety and resilience of railway infrastructure.

During his presentation, the Chairman of the CIAF shared his expert perspective on the strategic role that engineering and technology play in risk anticipation, emphasising the need to move towards increasingly predictive maintenance models supported by innovation.

Maintenance as the First Line of Defence

One of the main topics addressed during the forum was the importance of preventive and corrective maintenance as an essential tool for minimising incidents and strengthening operational safety.

The session provided an opportunity to reflect on how proper infrastructure maintenance, combined with continuous monitoring and technical analysis, contributes to identifying potential failures before they develop into critical situations.

Innovation and Research in the Service of Safety

The event also highlighted the impact of new materials, inspection technologies, and intelligent monitoring systems applied to railway infrastructure.

The combination of engineering, data analysis, and technology is creating new opportunities to develop more resilient infrastructure capable of anticipating behaviour patterns and improving decision-making processes.

A Platform for Knowledge Sharing and Industry Networking

With this new edition of the Forum, AGEINCO continues to promote spaces that encourage knowledge exchange and strengthen connections between professionals, companies, and institutions linked to engineering, consultancy, and technology services.

AGEINCO would like to thank Ignacio Barrón de Angoiti for his participation, as well as all members and collaborators whose attendance contributed to the success of the event.

We remain committed to developing initiatives that generate value, foster strategic debate, and strengthen Galicia’s business and technology ecosystem.
