9 June 2026
On Tuesday, 9 June, AGEINCO held the 2026 Annual Forum on Engineering and Architecture in Galicia at the facilities of the CITEEC Research Centre of the University of A Coruña. The event was conceived as a meeting point for professionals, companies, universities, public administrations, and students to discuss the main challenges and opportunities facing both sectors.
The forum provided an opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, and debate strategic issues for Galicia’s future, including professional skills identification, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, sustainability, new materials, and the energy transition.
Institutional Opening
The event opened with welcoming remarks from Javier Alonso, President of AGEINCO, and María José Lombardía Cortiña, Vice-Rector for Students and Employability at the University of A Coruña.
During the opening session, both speakers highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between businesses, universities, and public administrations in order to facilitate talent development, anticipate labour market needs, and continue positioning engineering and architecture as essential sectors for Galicia’s economic, technological, and social development.
Presentation of the Competency Map
One of the highlights of the forum was the presentation of the Competency Map, delivered by J. Moisés Castro of EOSA.
This new tool is designed to identify and organise the skills, profiles, and expertise currently required by companies in the sector, while also detecting potential training gaps and fostering stronger alignment between business needs, university education, and professional qualifications.
The Competency Map represents an important step towards gaining a deeper understanding of the sector and advancing talent planning that is better aligned with the digitalisation, innovation, and transformation processes currently taking place within companies.
Technological Innovation, BIM, Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence
The first thematic block focused on technological innovation, BIM, digitalisation, and artificial intelligence.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Susana Ladra, Vice-President of the Professional Association of Computer Engineering of Galicia, who discussed the evolution of emerging technologies and their impact on organisations and professionals.
This was followed by a roundtable discussion on digitalisation and new technologies, moderated by Susana Casal of CTAG, with the participation of:
- José Manuel González, Binarial
- Raquel Maquieira, Embermind
- Víctor Alonso, CTAG
Participants analysed the opportunities offered by automation, artificial intelligence, and advanced information management, while also emphasising the importance of supporting these processes through training, planning, and effective change management.
Sustainability, Circular Economy and New Materials
The afternoon session continued with a block dedicated to sustainability and the circular economy, opened by Ricardo Vázquez Pérez, Comptroller of the Official Association of Agricultural Engineers of Galicia.
This was followed by a roundtable discussion on sustainable new materials, moderated by Ángel Sánchez Toscano, from Toscaria, with the participation of:
- Fernando Martínez Abella, Director of CITEEC
- Fernando López Mera, CEO of Aquática Ingenieros
- Francisco Javier Prego Martínez, Extraco
The discussion highlighted the importance of incorporating sustainability, durability, efficiency, and circularity criteria from the earliest stages of project development, as well as the crucial role of research and collaboration between companies and technology centres in creating more innovative and responsible solutions.
Energy Challenges and the Energy Transition
The final block of the forum focused on energy challenges and their impact on the sector.
The keynote presentation was delivered by José María Alonso Rodríguez from Soltec Ingenieros and was followed by a roundtable discussion on the energy transition, moderated by Jesús Balseiro, Managing Director of Instra.
Participants included:
- Guillermo Bouza, Tecnoambiente
- Pablo Eguía Ollar, Professor at the University of Vigo
- José Ángel Núñez, AIN Active
The session addressed challenges related to decarbonisation, energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and the need for infrastructure and professionals prepared to respond to the evolving energy landscape.
A Forum Connecting Knowledge, Business and Talent
The event concluded with closing remarks delivered by Jerónimo Puertas Agudo, Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of A Coruña.
The 2026 Annual Forum reaffirmed AGEINCO’s commitment to supporting and promoting engineering, consultancy, architecture, and technology services, as well as creating spaces that encourage knowledge sharing, foster new collaborations, and strengthen connections between the business community and academia.
AGEINCO would like to thank all speakers, moderators, companies, professionals, institutional representatives, and attendees whose participation contributed to the success of the event.
The forum was organised by AGEINCO with the support of the University of A Coruña, CITEEC, and the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (IGAPE), whose collaboration was essential to the success of the initiative.
